How to Find King of Wings New Mexico

King of Wings is one of the best hikes in New Mexico. This winged hoodoo is located outside of Farmington, New Mexico.

It's an easy hike but a scavenger hunt. The King of Wings is hidden in an otherworldly landscape that will have you feeling like you are searching Mars.

Here is what you need to know before you try to find the King of Wings.

LocATION

King of Wings is located south of Farmington, New Mexico, near the Bisti Badlands/De-Na-Zin Wilderness and Ah-Shi-Sle-Pah Wilderness Study Area.

You need a 4-wheel drive high clearance vehicle to get here. You'll take NM-371 to 7650 to get there.

HIKE DETAILS

It was less than a 3-mile hike for us, but AllTrails was not helpful at all. I've included images of our path since King of Wings looks like this picture when you first spot it.

TIPS FOR THE HIKE

There are no facilities nearby, so bring plenty of food and water and pack out your trash. Keep an eye out for wild horses in the area. Save time to add on Valley of Dreams and Alien Throne as well.
